The fascination with vampires is a long-held tradition in literature, films and games, so it’s no surprise that there are more than a couple of vampire-themed slots on the market.
Blood Queen slot was created by Iron Dog Studios and it really makes the most of its theme. Not only is there a spooky gothic graveyard backdrop, but it’s also complemented by a hauntingly atmospheric soundtrack.
There are five reels and three rows all populated with symbols from vampire lore, including two crossed wooden stakes, and cameos of Van Hell and the Blood Queen herself.
Animated elements include two lovers sharing a kiss when you match three heart scatter symbols and activate the bonus round. Even the skeletons on the twin pillars either side shudder every so often.
It’s this kind of detail, together with the inventive bonus features and devilish potential pay-outs that make Blood Queen well worth a look.
Landing three or more heart scatter symbols will activate the free spins bonus round. Depending on how many scatters you matched, you can get up to 50 free spins!
Even better, you are then given a choice of bonus rounds, with either Van Hell or the Blood Queen playing.
In the Van Hell version of the round, you are looking for holy water symbols. These are wilds, and will spread out across four symbol positions, one at a time, helping you to create more winning combinations.
If you choose the Blood Queen, the magic symbol is her blood potion, which pops up at the top of reels two, three or four randomly. If it appears, it will expand to take over the whole reel. On every spin afterwards, it will nudge itself along to the left one place until it falls off the end.
You can play from just 30p up to £90 a spin on mobile, tablet or desktop, and the medieval imagery loses none of its charm.
The low-value symbols are the traditional J, Q, K and A whilst the high-value symbols are a set of cameo images – Van Hell, two lovers and the Blood Queen herself, as well as crossed stakes, a vampire and a cluster of rubies.
There is also a gargoyle wild symbol, which expands to fill the entire reel and will substitute for all other symbols apart from the lovers’ heart-shaped scatter.
Match three lovers and they will kiss before activating the free spins bonus round. You then get to choose which character’s bonus round you want to play, as described above.
Another Blood Queen slot review would probably focus on the bonuses and the RTP (96.06%) but, while those are certainly important, it’s the overall look and feel of this game and that we’ve got a taste for.
